What's your stance on spanking your kids?

I dont know how many parents we have on here but I wanted to raise the questions. The wife and I are were, probably, like all couples before the kids were born. "We wont spank our kids, we're not like that".

Boy was I wrong. [img]/LDPforum/ubbthreads/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif[/img] Now I dont punish my kids alot, but sometimes its the only thing, IMO, that works.

i love that bill engvall skit where he is talking about that unruly kid whos mother is saying, "Jimmy, do you want a timeout", and bill is like "TIMEOUT?, how about a knockout mam!!!!"

Got mine raised (22,26,28), but they got it when they needed it. Of course most of the spankings were when they were small, as it tapered off as they got older. There are much more effective means of punishment as the years roll by (grounding, no use of the car, phone, etc.) When you mess with their social life in the teen years, they sit up and take notice.
I found that each of mine were different, as the oldest needed less than any, and the middle (my only son) got the most. I guess I was as hard on him as my Dad was on me.
Two of the three are married, all gainfully employed, and all active in church activities.
When I polled them on this very question at dinner one night, they all expressed that they would not "spare the rod", especially my oldest who is a school teacher and would love to bust some arse! [img]/LDPforum/ubbthreads/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif[/img]

Rear naked chokes work every time . Seriously , I hate to do it but sometimes you must . It doesn't have to be a beatdown but a couple of palm whacks to the butt will let them know your limits .

Spare the rod, spoil the child. If it's good enough for the Bible, then we should follow. I spank as needed. Bring back getting paddled in school, that'll change some stuff.

I agree, but if paddling is going on in your home, there won't be much need of it at school. [img]/LDPforum/ubbthreads/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif[/img] As my Dad did me, I threatened my kids with even worse punishment at home for getting into trouble at school.
